I was never into Lego as a child so it’s come as something as a shock to me that I’ve embraced the world of the AFOL (Adult fan of Lego) with such gusto. But one Christmas, about five years ago, my wife’s nephew came up to me holding a small LEGO set. “Will you help me build it?” he asked. I was happy to oblige and while building it, something extraordinary happened to my brain. I entered a complete state of zen, all the busy bees that live in my noggin piped down and I experienced complete and utter peace. After that Christmas I kept thinking about how I’d felt when I built the LEGO and felt bereft because grown ups aren’t allowed to play, right? But then, by chance, I saw another author post a picture of a LEGO campervan she’d just built and in that moment I understood that adults building LEGO was a thing and I was TOTALLY allowed to get involved. I got myself the same set and it proved to be something of a gateway drug and before you knew it, I had a shed and a Youtube Channel, Relax With Bricks, I had Gooses (paid subscribers) and I was going to Legoland once a year for the Group AGM. (If you’re wondering, AFOLWAC stands for Adult Fans of Lego Who Are Chums.) I post films on YT every Monday to Friday and once a month I go live with Live and Bricking. It’s all great fun. Anyway, that’s by way of explanation. Enjoy the video tour of my shed.
